Is a DNA Test required for Immigration?

Currently, the option to perform a DNA Test to submit biological proof of a relationship to Immigration is, in fact, an option. Your family can submit the listed requirements on your Request for Evidence letter without a DNA Test.

It is also important we note, that a DNA Test is probably the strongest option for visa acceptance but not the only option. Although DNA Testing is a strong option, the Immigration Officer assigned to your case will have the final say on whether or not your family’s case will be accepted.

What is an AABB DNA Test?

An AABB DNA Test is a test that helps determine a relationship between two or more family members. Whether it is a mother and child or a father and child. These relationships are asked to be proven by an Immigration Official or office such as a U.S. Embassy, USCIS, Passport Agency or an Immigration Judge when families are unable to submit enough evidence to prove their family’s relationship to immigration.

How long does the AABB Immigration DNA Testing process take?

How long the process will take will be predicated on the location of the parties involved with the DNA Test. Families that have all parties located in the United States can expect an average turnaround time of 2-3 business days from the date the lab receives your family’s DNA samples.

Families that have one or all members residing in their country of origin and have been requested to perform a DNA Test for Immigration purposes can expect an average turnaround time for completion of 6-8 weeks. Please note, the time frame provided is just an average turnaround. The Embassy is responsible for coordinating your family’s member’s appointment. Therefore, the embassy is in control of all appointment dates and times.
